He was predeceased by: his parents, John M. O'Brien and Katherine Lamouree O'Brien; and his siblings, Suzanne, Nancy, Michael and Virginia.

He is survived by: his wife Karen; his sons, Dennis Jr., Peter and Christopher (Nina); his grandchildren, Shannen (Nate) and Christopher Jr.; and his sister Gail. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
