He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Cannistra and Louise Cannistra (Matthews); his brothers, Thomas and Phillip; and his cousin Frances Solovitch.

He is survived by: his wife Alice Smith; his daughters, Danielle Malloy and Tara Bivona (Michael); and his siblings, Robert, David Cannistra (Jody), Maria Bard (Ted) and Susan Klugh. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
