He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schmit and Lena Schmit; his wife Selma "Sally" Baird; and his sons, Robert Jr., John "Jack" and Timothy Schmit.
He is survived by: his daughter Cynthia Stambach (Paul); his daughters-in-law, Linda and Christina Schmit; and his grandchildren, Erika Richards (Chris), Betsy Stambach-Fuller (Jon), Robert E. Schmit III, Andrea Rausch (Dan), Abby Stambach, Daniel Schmit and Matt Schmit (Brittany). He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
