He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Buchanan and Jean Buchanan (Cockburn). He is survived by: his children, Brian Buchanan (Jennifer) and Cortney Ostrom (John); his granddaughter Nola Buchanan; and his sister Laurie Gutshaw (K. John).
