He was predeceased by: his wife Constance V. "Connie" Slowey (Rightmyre); his parents, Alexander J. Slowey and Ruth W. Slowey (Kearney); his son Robert S. Slowey; and his siblings, Samuel Slowey, Thomas Slowey and Elizabeth O'Brien.

He is survived by: his children, James J. Slowey, Jr. (Judith) of Lockport, NY, Deborah L. Raguso (Richard) of Wimauma, FL and Colleen M. Slowey of Coatesville, PA; his grandchildren, James J. Slowey III (Rie), Rachel Slowey, Christopher Slowey (Heather), Stephanie Price (Robert), Nicholas Birch (Kaitlin) and Danielle Grobman; and his great grandchildren, Tristan, Ryan, Loretta, Levon, Hayley and Savannah.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of James to his granddaughter's foundation, The Giving Girls.
