He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Matthews and Emily Matthews (Herron); and his sister Billie Radtke. He is survived by: his children, Jeffrey Matthews (Heidi) and Sherry Callahan (Chris); his grandchildren, Brian Kneeland, Heath Smith, Keely Smith, Emily Hyde (John) and Sarah Matthews; and his great grandchildren, Matthew, Carolynn, Jane and Emilia Hyde.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Crossroads Hospice Foundation or to the Greater East Ohio Area Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
