He was predeceased by: his parents, A. R. "Russ" Coates and Vera Coates (Nouse); his former wife Beverly Swallen (Blackledge); his wife Pauline Coates (Shanabruch); his son Russ A. Coates; and his siblings, Adrian (Bud), Kenneth, Evelyn and Don.
He is survived by: his son Todd (Sara); his grandchildren, Stacey (Randall) and Aaron (Ashley); his great grandchildren, Clara Belle, Kaitlyn, Nirvana and Nevaeh; his sisters-in-law, Doris Coates and Jane Packa; and his daughters, Tanny and Luv. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel (705 Raff Rd SW, Canton, OH 44710).
They family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canton Ex- Newsboys Association or Trinity United Church of Christ.
