He was predeceased by: his father Johnny Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Mary Johnson; and his children, Valerie Ring (Virgil Jr), Phyllis Diann Matelski and Johnney Johnson (Theresa). He is also survived by six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Aultman Hospice.
