He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Ike and Florence Gretchen Mitchell (Callender); and his sister Sally Jo. He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou Mitchell (Barkey); his children, Michelle Newsome (Ty), Mara Frey (Jeff) and Joe Mitchell (Emily); his grandchildren, Brooke, Mitchell, Max, Colleen, Roslyn and Ike; and his brothers, Joe Mitchell (Rita Irmini) and Terry Mitchell (Barb Lowry). He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital—causes close to John's heart.
