He was predeceased by: his wife Joan Schmidt (Braun); his parents, Frank Schmidt and Lena Schmidt (Bauman); and his brother John. He is survived by: his sons, Karl (Anne), Walter K. Jr. and Michael; his grandchildren, Sven, Andrew (Giulianna), Kody, Jocelyn, Kaitlyn and Hunter; his great grandchildren, Cameron, Madelyn, Elliott and Morgan; and his brother Frank (Ulrike). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to Family Pillars Hospice, Sacred Heart Senior Living, or Queenship of Mary Church in Walter's memory.
