He is survived by: his great grandchild Carl; his wife Penny Allen Bates; his children, Tami Bates Cruz (Brian), Holly Bates, Heather Bates Haltinner (Robby) and Mark Bates (Jody); and his mother-in-law Cleoma Allen. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
