He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Ellen Adams (Geter) and Willie Melvin Pierre; his siblings, Robin, Carey Veliz and Karen Dillard; and his son Darrell "Sonny" Veliz Jr..
He is survived by: his siblings, William "Billy", Jose Veliz, Kathy Raines, Pamela Veliz and Kim Bayless; his nieces and nephews, Mary Louise, Emily, Doug, Danny, Samuel and Wesley; the mothers of children, Grace (Pumpkin), Delena (Dee-Dee), Regina (Cheeks) and Barbara (Barb); his children, LaKisha (John), LaToya, Willie, Raqura and Markise; and his great grandchildren, Lequis, Lionel, Kyrell, Elijah, Marquis, Elija, Isreal, Izaiah, Camiyah, Kaliah, Alice, Nahla, Sonny III, True and Adylise.
