He is survived by: his wife Julie (Koss); his daughter Kristin Smith (Thomas); his grandchildren, Mykaelah Angell (Jacob) and Wyatt Smith (Morgan); his siblings, Sharron Ellis (Robert), Nancy Deschaine, Douglas Wagner (Mary), Dennis Wagner (Gloria) and Sandra Jarzynka (Richard); his sisters-in-law, Sally Wagner and Elaine Koss (Drachenberg); his great-niece Lainee (Wagners); his siblings, Barbara, James and Thomas; his nephews, Cory Wagner and Robert Koss Jr.; his niece Paula Wenhardt (Koss); and his siblings-in-law, John Deschaine, Steven Koss, Robert Koss, Daniel Koss, Florence Koss (Palecek), Carol Koss (Paulsen) and Nancy Koss (Kittoe).
During this time, he gained fame and used that fame for good by going to many charity events, meeting and becoming friends with many leaders, and players and the community in which he would volunteer.
