He was predeceased by: his parents, James S. Koerner and Mary Koerner; and his son Ethan James Koerner. He is survived by: his siblings, Debra Gerondale (Mike), Douglas Allen Koerner (Lisa) and Lisa Marie Schryock (Donald); his children, Monte Aaron Koerner, Shenlee-Rae B Sires and Andrea M. Koerner; his significant other Diane M. Koerner (Hodges); and his significant other's children, Severin J. Koerner and Ashley M. Koerner.

In lieu of floral expressions, memorials in Jim's name may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Organization or to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
