He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Wright and Marie Wright (Geiger); his wife Lorraine Stadler; and his siblings, Joan "Bea" Rand (Jim), Phyllis Tomasko (Bob) and Jack Wright (Marion).

He is survived by: his children, Cindy LeBelle (Randy), David Wright (Gailiee), Patrick Wright (Elizabeth), Cheri Mercado (James), Michael Wright (Roberta) and Richard Wright (Tammy); his grandchildren, Courtney McGraw (Jonathan), Jessica Taylor (J. R.), Clare Wright, Ian Wright, Vanessa Mercado, Olivia Mercado, Oliver Wright (Beth), Wolfgang Wright and Aubyn Vogel (Jeffrey); his great grandchildren, Bella, Jackson, Caleb, Harper, Averie, Everly, Austyn and Myles; and his parents-in-law, Bob Hughes and Carol Stadler. He is also survived by his six children, nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

A memorial has been established to Mayo Clinic Research and Innovation.
