He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Stover and Anna Mae Stover; his stepfather William Smith; his half-siblings, Kenneth Smith and Patty Dalton; his grandson Robert Keith Stover; his stepchildren, Beverly Lucas and Steven Lucas; and his stepgranddaughter Vera Stover.

He is survived by: his wife Violet Stover of Huntington; his children, Virginia Stumbo (Steve) of Burlington, Ohio, Robert Stover, Jr. (Sue) of Huntington and Kenneth Stover (Kimberly) of Huntington; his stepchildren, Tina Lucas of Huntington, Mark Lucas of Springhill and Dale Lucas of Huntington; his sister Phylis Adkins (Willard) of Beckley, WV; and his half-sister Ellen Call (Ray) of Marion.
