“Gerrit was a thoughtful and generous brother to me, Mary Anne. For instance,, at age 12 I sold garden seeds to earn a brownie camera ....he bought me a photo album for my black and white pictures...At age 15 I received my first desk.. He bought me a desk lamp. I listened in his bedroom to his first vinyl record by A. Kettleby, "In a Monastery Garden".... .I imagine Gerrit in his Monastery Garden today..with flowers everywhere, birds twittering and a mens' choir singing his favorite Dutch hymns”
