Avis de décès de Hugh William Reginald Tollett
It is with deepest regret that we wish to inform you of the peaceful passing of our beloved brother, Hugh William Reginald Tollett on January 16th at the age of 58. He is now reunited with our father, Leonard Tollett and leaves behind his mother Therese (Coté), his 3 older siblings Robert (Peggy), Diane (Danny), Claude (Carol), his nieces, grand nieces, and nephews and many close friends who were like family to him, for whom we are truly grateful.
Born on May 19th, 1965, in Montreal, Huey's courageously faced the diagnosis of a lifelong battle with non-malignant brain tumors (NF2) at the age of 10, but this never stopped him embracing a life of adventure.
He joined the air cadets at a young age and became a reservist at the 438 Squadron in St. Hubert which took him overseas to Germany where he defied odds and took courses to rappel out of helicopters. He completed a B. Commerce degree from Concordia University went on to work and ski in Whistler. He practiced hard and become a member of the Canadian Telemark Ski Team. Huey also fought passionately for causes close to his heart, dedicating time to cancer research funding and raising awareness about NF2, a rare form of the disease. He received the BC Rehab Foundation award for setting up the website WhistlerforTheDisabled.com that provided 2010 Paralympic Winter game participants information regarding accessibility and services.
The thing that truly kept Hugh going was his love and devotion for his mother. He did everything he could to make her happy and ensure she led a fulfilling life and enjoyed many trips together.
Friends called Huey a warrior, a hero, and an inspiration. Our lives were blessed by his determination, courage, and unwavering spirit and we wish him the peace and comfort he so rightfully deserves.
A memorial service is being arranged and will take place on April 6th at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. A video will be recorded for those who cannot attend in person.
In lieu of flowers, Huey has requested that donations be made to the Cedars Cancer Society, Vivian Saykaly Fund.
