He was predeceased by: his parents, George Gate and Margaret Minchin; and his sister Brenda Gate. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Tang; his sons, Samuel and Jesse; and his siblings, Dianne Gate and Richard Gate (Kathy).

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given in his name to NOVA West Island or the Alzheimer Society of Montreal.
