Avis de décès de Frederick John Weideman
Born in St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, November 23, 1948.
John died naturally at home with his family and friends on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
A loving, loyal and supportive father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend to people in Saint-Armand and region, the Lower North Shore and Eeyou Nation; plus, many colleagues and friends living across Canada and in South Africa and the United Kingdom.
An educator extraordinaire John taught in many learning settings. He initiated and developed community-based education projects for the Montreal YMCA and four of the nine Quebec English School Boards.
Humour, respect, knowledge, and teamwork were trademarks of his work. He was known for working 'with' and not 'over' people.
John's passions were first sailing and then hiking, canoeing, motor cycling, fishing, skiing, hockey, tennis, racket ball and curling. As claimed by his South African friend, he was a 'man for all seasons'. Sports, shared with family and friends built his relationships and connected him deeply with family and lifelong friendships.
John's greatest passion was his three children, Hannah, Bram and Toma. He had pride in them. He was proud of how they lived their lives and took responsibility for their families, and he was proud of their career choices. He loved nothing better than sitting down with them and discussing a work or life-related problem.
Partner and best friend, Juel was central in John's life. Meeting at the Montreal YMCA, together they discovered the beauty of Saint-Armand and Brigus, NL. They formed a friendship spanning 52 years. Reading their wedding vows annually, they're-committed themselves to their beliefs and values surrounding family, friendships, developing communities and accompanying people to become education leaders in their own surroundings.
